The Congregation of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd was founded in France in 1835 by St. Mary Euphrasia. She was born on 31st July 1796 in France. She was gifted with a deep love for humanity and revered each person in her/his uniqueness. The socially marginalised young girls and women of her time found in her a loving mother and teacher. By the time of her death on 24th April 1868, she had founded 100 Convents across the world, including one in India in 1854. The Good Shepherd School in Chennai was started in 1925.
Education according to St. Mary Euphrasia should develop to the fullest all that is best in the human personality psychologically, physically, intellectually, socially, aesthetically and spiritually. We, the sisters of the Good Shepherd continue to make the ideal of our Foundress a living reality in our worldwide mission of education and re-education, both formal and non-formal in diverse cultures. Her favourite maxim was that we should form strong characters of high principles grounded in truth. Her comments on various aspects in this connection are worthy of earnest reflection.
Study –We should be diligent in studies, eager to acquire knowledge, as by its means we shall be able to help others.
Work-Do well all that is given to us to do.
Kindess-We shall do more good with a spoonful of honey than a barrel of vinegar. It is kindess that wins hearts.
Justice-Do not say, do or listen to anything that would injure the repetition of others.
Gratitude-Gratitude is the memory of the heart. We should be grateful to God, our parents, teachers, our friends and our school.
Humility-Humility leads to greatness. We often have a fault or imperfection which is obvious to all but ourselves. To grow, we have to be open to correction.
Zeal- When we truly love God nothing seems difficult. With Zeal and Devotion you wil succeed in accomplishing the most difficult task. All this is very well summed up in our motto. "DO WELL ALL THAT YOU DO"

WITH JESUS THE GOOD SHEPHERD AS OUR GUIDING FORCE AND THE INSPIRING VISION OF OUR FOUNDRESS, OUR MISSION IS TO DEVLOP THE INDIVIDUALITY OF OUR STUDENTS SPIRITUALLY, EMOTIONALLY, ACADEMICALLY, SOCIALLY AND PHYSICALLY SO THAT THEY WILL BECOME WELL BALANCED PERSONS WHO ARE ABLE TO FACE CHALLENGES IN ALL WALKS OF LIFE.
